▲ A scene from 2016 Korean Festival of Dallas
The annual ‘Korean Festival of Dallas’ will be held on October 28th at the parking lot of Carrollton H-Mart.
Being held as an outdoor event for second straight years, the festival brings people from all walks of life together and provides them with an opportunity to experience authentic Korean culture.
There will be a great number of food stands and jaw-dropping performances and activities for all age groups to enjoy.
Among the many activities planned, you’ll have a chance to learn how to prepare “Bibimbap” (Korean dish mixed with warm rice and vegetables) and “Kimchi” and enjoy Korean calligraphy performance.
The highlight of this year’s Korean Festival will be “Bean Bag Throwing Even”, where participants will throw fist-sized bean bags towards the basket in attempt to break it. When the basket cracks open, a congratulatory banner about “2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games” will be released.
The slogan for this year’s festival is, “Success, 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games.” Attendees of the festival will learn more about the upcoming Olympic games through fun activities, video clips, and its host city’s(Gangwon Province) traditional cuisines.
The mascots of the Olympic, Soohorang and Bandabi, will also make their appearance during the festival.
For any who can sing, dance, or perform any type of interesting tricks, there will be a chance to enter into a talent show. To enter, you have to contact the Korean Society of Dallas in advance. Its contact number is 972-241-4524.
Some of the most prominent world-renowned traditional Korean dancers will perform in the 2017 Korean Festival. Dallas has yet to see the performance by these world-renowned dancers until now.
Moreover, one of Korea’s most acclaimed “Samulnori” performers, Gwanggaeto Samulnori Team, will leave in awe; “samulnori” is a performing art which dance meets percussion for a powerful and upbeat live sound.
The performances in this year’s festival are expected to be much more grandiose than the last year’s festival; both stage and sound system have been considerably enhanced.
You can find clips of last year’s Korean festival via YouTube by searching “Dallas Korean Festival”.
